Walking on Water!

Matthew 14:28-30

When Peter sees Jesus walking on water he says to Him, “Lord if it is You, command me to come to you on the water.”

Then the most amazing thing happened. Peter steps out of the boat and begins to walk on water towards Jesus. Eye contact with Jesus. Jesus Invites Peter to Walk

Then when the boisterous wind came up the Word says he saw it. He took his eyes off Jesus. Peter was breaking all the rules of gravity. He was doing it. How mind boggling! But then Peter began to sink and cry out to Jesus!

This image reminds me of the movie Runaway Bride. Julia Roberts is walking up the aisle and is instructed to stay focused by keeping her eyes on the groom. And that way, not panic about the steps she is taking towards her groom. Then suddenly she hears a noise and her attention comes loose. Her panic starts to engulf her just like Peter and like Peter it appears that she too will start to sink. She starts to feel fear as she has in the past but this time, she remembers and refocuses on her groom; the true object of her affection and this time she completes her journey into the arms of her “one and only.”

The real takeaway here is to imagine what the possibilities could be in our lives if we constantly keep our thoughts on the Lord Jesus and eliminate the thoughts that distract us from reaching our goals and dreams. Praise be to Him for making the impossible possible. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” PHIL 4:13
